Golf Diary

The Round: Played Stoughton Acres Score 76 Greens In Reg. 6 Putts 27

The Good: I had to put my putter in the freezer when I got home it was so hot. I made two birdie putts one of about 40 feet and the other 25 feet. I made a par putt on the 9th hole of about 40 feet on a hole that I just butchered. I got it up and down 7 out of 12 times. I never missed a short putt all day. My driving was good most of the day.

The Bad: My iron game was bad hitting only 6 greens in regulation. I did have a couple of holes where I put it on the fringe. I played the par 3’s badly never hitting one on the green and playing them 2 over.

The Luck Of The Round: I had a lot of good fortune today. I hit one drive on the 9th hole so far left that I wound up being ok. I got through a couple of trees on 2 holes with minimal damage where I had shots to the green. Any time you make 3 bombs of putts, luck is on your side. I also hit a second shot on a par 5 that was headed into a lake but hit the rocks and ricocheted back into play. I hit I nice wedge within about 6 feet but missed the putt. One of the few putts I missed all day and did not really take advantage of the good break.

Next Round: Tomorrow, South Park then a 10 day break.

The Round: Played South Park: Score 74 Greens In Reg. 12 Putts 32

The Good: My game from 80 yards in was very good. I hit three pitch shots from 60 to 80 yards that all ended up 3 to 5 feet from the pin. I made all 3 putts for birdies. My other birdie came from 120 yards out with a gap wedge to about 8 feet. I hit 12 greens in regulation for a very good iron day. My driving was good if not great. Even though I did not drive the ball far today, none of my drives found trouble. My decision-making process was good which really helped out the results of the shots.

The Bad: This is what made my round interesting in that my putting and short game were not good. I only got it up and down 1 out of 6 times. I made a double bogey from about 5 yards short of the green. I hit a strong chip and then blew a 15 foot putt about 5 feet past the hole and then missed that for the double. I had a couple of yip putts but no chip yips today.

The Luck Of The Round: I had some good breaks today. I hit a thin 6 iron on a par 3 that rolled onto the green. I skulled a wedge on the last hole that is uphill, and it was able to stay on the green. I did not have any bad luck today that’s for sure.

Next Round: Tomorrow Stoughton Acres.

Golf Diary

The Round: Played Highland Springs Score 78 Green In Reg. 5 Putts 29

The Good: Drove the ball well today. Had one bad drive on the last hole that led to a bogey. The putter was working well as I made a lot of short putts for par. The short game was good getting up and down 6 out of 13 times. I made a good up and down for a birdie on a par 5.

The Bad: The iron game was off today by just a hair. I only hit the five greens and only had 2 good looks at birdie. Had a few chip yips which led to bogies. I hit some good irons that were just a little far left or right. Made solid contact most of the day.

The Luck Of The Round: Really was not a factor today. The round was free of any unusual bounces or tree problems.

Next Round: Saturday South Park

Golf Diary

The Rounds: Round 1 South Park Score 79 Greens in Reg. 6 Putts 32

Round 2 Suncrest Score 82 Greens In Reg 7 Putts 35

The Good: The weather was gorgeous and I did hit some very good drives. My iron game started to show some life at Suncrest. My swing seems to be improving despite the results.

The Bad: The whole game but particularly the putting. Two 3 putt greens at the Park and three 3 putt greens at Suncrest. The short game was bad, and I could not really make up for it with my putting. This was a weekend of torture with the way I played. Better days are ahead.

The Luck Of The Round: Luck in both rounds even themselves out. I had some good bounces off trees and then some really bad bounces off trees. I had a lot of putts lip out particularly at Suncrest. All in all, it really was not significant with the way I played.

Next Round: Tomorrow at Fort Cherry.

Golf Diary

Round: Played Beaver Creek Meadows Score 71 Green In Reg. 11 Putts 29

The Good: The short game came alive today. I got it up and down 5 out of 7 times, including a chip in on the last hole to make birdie to shoot even par. This a short course from the white tees but the back nine has a little more teeth to it. My putting was good as I did not miss a short putt. The number 29 is a little better than I actually putted because of 0 putts on 18 with the chip in.

The Bad: My ball striking was mediocre at best. The big difference today was that my bad shots wound up ok. I always had a shot and my chipping and pitching were the best all year. Even though I hit 11 greens, my irons were bad on shots of 150 yards and over. I went through 2 different methods of ball striking in the round. Despite the good score it was a struggle.

The Luck Of The Round: I was quite fortunate today. Unlike most of my rounds, I did not have the horrible shot and my bad shots were never in serious trouble, which was very fortunate. I had pretty straight forward punch shots and I avoided the traps all day by fractions of a yard. The sand was packed fairly hard, and I had a few shots just run through the bunkers into pretty good spots. Did not have any putts lip out. It was quite a good day.

Next Round: Saturday, South Park.

Golf Diary

The Round: Played South Park Score 83 Greens In Reg. 3 Putts 33

The Good: The weather was cool and a little windy but good. The beer and cheeseburger after the round.

The Bad: The entire game stunk. I didn’t drive the ball too bad but it still was not good. The iron play was awful with only 3 greens in regulation. The putting was bad with one 3 putt green and numerous misses from 4 to 8 feet. I was kind of trying to find some way to become more consistent, but it was to no avail. It was another day of just some horrible shots. This game will just chew you up and spit you out. I ended up the day well digested.

The Luck Of The Round: When you are going bad you are not going to get any real breaks. Lots of bad bounces and really could not get anything going all day. Glad the day is over.

Next Round: Thursday, Beaver Creek Meadow, in East Liverpool Ohio.

Golf Diary

The Rounds: Played Lake Arthur Score 81 Greens In Reg: 8 Putts 33

Played Rolling Green Score 78 Greens In Reg: 11 Putts 34

The Good: Not much, did hit some good drives and a periodic good iron shot.

The Bad: Putting was not good. Made a nice birdie putt at Lake Arthur of around 20 feet but for the two days I had two 3 putt greens each day. My short game was bad as I did not seem to have much touch either day. Getting it up and down 4 out of 10 times at Lake Arthur and 2 out of 7 times at Rolling Green. I hit too many drives that got me into trouble both days. I had a lot of short iron shots that I did not get that close to the pin. The biggest problem both days was that when I hit a bad shot it was really bad that led to the higher scores.

The Luck Of The Rounds: At Lake Arthur the course was playing hard and fast and you had to bounce a lot of shots into the greens. I had some bad bounces but nothing too crazy. I got what I deserved. Luck was not a factor at Rolling Green.

Next Round: Tomorrow at South Park.

Golf Diary

The Round: Played South Park Score 72 Greens In Reg. 8 Putts 27

The Good: Played from the senior tees and it seems when I play from those tees my putter is on fire. I had a lot of balls on the fringe and I got it up and down 9 out of 10 times. Six of those times it was with the putter from off the fringe. I got it up and down 3 out of 4 times with chipping or pitching. Despite having such a good day with the putter, I three putted the 9th green from about 10 feet for one of my bogies. I had 2 birdies and 2 bogies and the rest pars.

The Bad: It would be too harsh to say my long game was bad but I could not put it under the good. The best way to describe my long game would be inconsistent. I hit an 8 iron on a par 3 about 50 yards. I hope I don’t have to write that the par 3 was longer than that. It led to the other bogey. I drove the ball well in the early part of the round but after the 10th hole my driver just quit functioning and I never really hit another good one the rest of the day. I was hitting this low hook but not really a bad duck hook and with the dry ground the ball would roll a long way. Then I started hitting it right on a few holes to overcompensate. I was hitting my irons out of the rough a lot, so it was hard to judge just how well I was hitting them, but I did not have any disastrous shots with the irons, other than the 8 iron.

The Luck Of The Round: I hit some shots that I thought would roll into the woods but the rough held them up just enough. My lies in the rough were always pretty decent. I had some really nice putts to save par, with many of them going in the right or left center of the hole and none lipped out. I did not get any bad breaks.

Next Round: Sunday, Lake Arthur in Butler Pa.

Golf Diary

The Rounds: Round 1 Black Hawk Score 84 Greens In Reg. 4 Putts 34

Round 2 Riverview Score 80 Greens In Reg. 8 Putts 34

The Good: The weather, the condition of the courses, and the beer after the round.

The Bad: Too brutal to go through but the stats speak for themselves. Putting was horrible and the whole game stunk out the joint. Whenever you go through spells like this and believe me, I have gone through them many times, you basically think that they will never end. The only thing I am doing well and a lot of, is fishing. Fishing for one solution after another with no results. It is a frustrating time.

The Luck Of The Round: I am even getting some good breaks and cannot take advantage of them. Tomorrow is another day. Don’t let the sun catch you crying. Pretty deep, huh

Next Round: Tomorrow, Highland Springs.

Golf Diary

The Round: Played South Park Score 78 Green In Reg. 10 Putts 34

The Good: My driving came back today and my iron game was good. Course and the weather beautiful.

The Bad: My putting was off as it has been for about the last 2 weeks. Had two 3 putt greens and really never made anything all day. The birdie putt I made was from about 6 feet. The short game was not good. Even though driving and the irons were good I still managed to hit some awful shots that cost me strokes each time. I could not execute the shot that I needed to score. Made many mental errors today.

The Luck Of The Round: Luck was not a factor all day. I struck the ball pretty well all day and I needed no good bounces to save the day. The bottom line, I should have scored better than what I did.

Next Round: Tomorrow, Black Hawk in Beaver Falls.
