Pirates Morning Report

FINAL SCORE: PIRATES 8 DODGERS 4

WHY THE PIRATES WON: FOR THE THIRD CONSECUTIVE GAME, THE PIRATES HIT MULTIPLE HOME RUNS THAT ACCOUNTED FOR 4 OF THE 8 RUNS. THE DODGERS HELPED ALONG THE WAY BY CONTINUING TO RUN THE BASES LIKE BLIND MEN. THE PIRATE PITCHING WAS NOT GREAT, BUT GOOD ENOUGH, AND DID TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE DODGER’S BASE RUNNING MISCUES. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THE DODGERS WERE SWEPT AT HOME SINCE AUGUST OF 2018.

KEY MOMENT OF THE GAME: JOSH VAN METER INJURED HIS HAND IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 5TH AND WAS REPLACED BY THE STRUGGLING RUDOLFO CASTRO. HE UNSTRUGGLED QUICKLY BY MAKING A BIG DEFENSIVE PLAY IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 7TH AND THEN GOING 2 FOR 2 WITH A HOME RUN AND 4 RBI’S. HE WAS THE MARGIN OF VICTORY. IT WAS GREAT TO SEE THE YOUNG MAN HAVE SUCH A BIG GAME.

NEXT GAME: FRIDAY NIGHT, DIAMONDBACKS IN PITTSBURGH. WHEN THE PIRATES BEAT THE DODGERS 2 OUT OF 3 IN PITTSBURGH, THEY WENT ON TO GO 6-11. WILL THIS BE DIFFERENT? ONLY TIME WILL TELL. THE YOUNG GUYS ARE SLOWLY COMING UP AND COULD MAKE THIS TEAM FUN TO WATCH. NO QUESTION, THE SURPRISE OF THE SEASON HAS BEEN THE PITCHING. THE PIRATES ARE A UNIQUE TEAM, IN THAT INJURIES MAKE THEM BETTER. THIS SURE HAS PUT A KINK IN TRYING TO GET THE NUMBER ONE PICK, WHICH HAS BEEN MANAGEMENTS GOAL SINCE THE START OF THE SEASON. THE PLAYERS WILL NOT CO-OPERATE. BY THE WAY, I TRIED BUT FAILED TO MAKE WATER INTO WINE, SO DISAPPOINTING.
