The Rounds: Played Lake Arthur Score 81 Greens In Reg: 8 Putts 33

Played Rolling Green Score 78 Greens In Reg: 11 Putts 34

The Good: Not much, did hit some good drives and a periodic good iron shot.

The Bad: Putting was not good. Made a nice birdie putt at Lake Arthur of around 20 feet but for the two days I had two 3 putt greens each day. My short game was bad as I did not seem to have much touch either day. Getting it up and down 4 out of 10 times at Lake Arthur and 2 out of 7 times at Rolling Green. I hit too many drives that got me into trouble both days. I had a lot of short iron shots that I did not get that close to the pin. The biggest problem both days was that when I hit a bad shot it was really bad that led to the higher scores.

The Luck Of The Rounds: At Lake Arthur the course was playing hard and fast and you had to bounce a lot of shots into the greens. I had some bad bounces but nothing too crazy. I got what I deserved. Luck was not a factor at Rolling Green.

Next Round: Tomorrow at South Park.

The Round: Played South Park Score 72 Greens In Reg. 8 Putts 27

The Good: Played from the senior tees and it seems when I play from those tees my putter is on fire. I had a lot of balls on the fringe and I got it up and down 9 out of 10 times. Six of those times it was with the putter from off the fringe. I got it up and down 3 out of 4 times with chipping or pitching. Despite having such a good day with the putter, I three putted the 9th green from about 10 feet for one of my bogies. I had 2 birdies and 2 bogies and the rest pars.

The Bad: It would be too harsh to say my long game was bad but I could not put it under the good. The best way to describe my long game would be inconsistent. I hit an 8 iron on a par 3 about 50 yards. I hope I don’t have to write that the par 3 was longer than that. It led to the other bogey. I drove the ball well in the early part of the round but after the 10th hole my driver just quit functioning and I never really hit another good one the rest of the day. I was hitting this low hook but not really a bad duck hook and with the dry ground the ball would roll a long way. Then I started hitting it right on a few holes to overcompensate. I was hitting my irons out of the rough a lot, so it was hard to judge just how well I was hitting them, but I did not have any disastrous shots with the irons, other than the 8 iron.

The Luck Of The Round: I hit some shots that I thought would roll into the woods but the rough held them up just enough. My lies in the rough were always pretty decent. I had some really nice putts to save par, with many of them going in the right or left center of the hole and none lipped out. I did not get any bad breaks.

Next Round: Sunday, Lake Arthur in Butler Pa.

The Rounds: Round 1 Black Hawk Score 84 Greens In Reg. 4 Putts 34

Round 2 Riverview Score 80 Greens In Reg. 8 Putts 34

The Good: The weather, the condition of the courses, and the beer after the round.

The Bad: Too brutal to go through but the stats speak for themselves. Putting was horrible and the whole game stunk out the joint. Whenever you go through spells like this and believe me, I have gone through them many times, you basically think that they will never end. The only thing I am doing well and a lot of, is fishing. Fishing for one solution after another with no results. It is a frustrating time.

The Luck Of The Round: I am even getting some good breaks and cannot take advantage of them. Tomorrow is another day. Don’t let the sun catch you crying. Pretty deep, huh

Next Round: Tomorrow, Highland Springs.

The Round: Played South Park Score 78 Green In Reg. 10 Putts 34

The Good: My driving came back today and my iron game was good. Course and the weather beautiful.

The Bad: My putting was off as it has been for about the last 2 weeks. Had two 3 putt greens and really never made anything all day. The birdie putt I made was from about 6 feet. The short game was not good. Even though driving and the irons were good I still managed to hit some awful shots that cost me strokes each time. I could not execute the shot that I needed to score. Made many mental errors today.

The Luck Of The Round: Luck was not a factor all day. I struck the ball pretty well all day and I needed no good bounces to save the day. The bottom line, I should have scored better than what I did.

Next Round: Tomorrow, Black Hawk in Beaver Falls.

Golf Diary

The Round: Played Indian Run Score 80 Greens In Reg. 9 Putting 35

The Good: The weather and the course was in great shape. The course was fast and dry. My iron game was pretty good with 9 GIR’s and had many good looks at birdies.

The Bad: My driving was off again although a little better than Wednesday. My putting was bad again with many putts just not finding the hole. Of the 9 greens I missed, I did not get it up a down one time. I hit pretty good chips and pitches but could not make a putt. I had a pretty good stretch on the front nine where I hit 5 out of 6 greens in regulation but again could not make a putt. I had 4 really good looks at birdies, including one of 3 feet but could not convert. I managed 4 GIR’s on the back nine and did make one putt of about 7 feet for my only birdie of the day.

The Luck Of The Round: On 9, 10, and 11 I hit 3 tee shots where the ball should have been lost and wound up in play smelling like a rose. I could not take advantage of my good fortune as I bogied all three holes. I skipped my drive across a lake on 9. Wound up just 2 yards to the right of high grass on 10. Hit a low hook on the 11th hole that went between two trees and wound up in the fairway only 116 from the middle of the green.

The Next Round: Saturday, at South Park.

Golf Diary

The Round: Played South Park Score 85 Greens In Reg. 6 Putts 36

The Good: The weather and the condition of the course

The Bad: My entire game. You would have thought this was my first round of the year not just the first after an 8 day lay off. The greens were in great shape but a little faster than I anticipated, and this led to many 3 putts, although technically I had only 2. I had many balls on the fringe and not that far from the pin that I could not get up and down. My driving was horrible. I almost missed the ball on my opening tee shot and hit it dead right about 150 yards off the tee. My driving the rest of the day was not good. My putting was just as bad, and I could not make anything. The iron game was the best of the worst but really was not that great. At least I was back on the course and playing.

The Luck Of The Round: I had one great break when a second shot on a par 4 went right through a tree and almost made it to the green. No luck on the green, as I had many a good putt that could not find the hole. It was a day to forget.

Next Round: Tomorrow, Indian Run in Avella, Pa. Back in the groove and hopefully a better day.

Golf Diary

The Round: Played South Park Score 79 Green In Reg. 7 Putts 31

The Good: Hit some good irons again, even though I only had 7 GIR’s, but I had a lot of balls on the fringe relatively close to the pin. I drove the ball well through the first 10 holes and number 18. The weather was perfect. My short game shots were good even though I only got it up and down 5 out of 11 times.

The Bad: Putting was off again. I missed way too many 4 to 7 foot putts. My chipping and pitching were good, but I could not finish it off by making the putt. Particularly galling was a 3-putt green on the par 5 tenth hole where I had reached the green in 2 and only had about a 15 foot putt for eagle. I was a little too bold on the eagle putt and ran it about 4 feet past the hole. Then missed the comeback putt for a 3 putt par that really took the sails out of the round. I hit my best drive of the day on 10 to set up the approach to the green. For the next 5 driving holes I did not hit very good drives and 2 of them cost me bogies. I did finish with a very nice drive on 18 but by then the round was toast.

The Luck Of The Round: I had a good break on the par 3 8th where I hit a gap wedge really thin but it came out ok within 12 feet of the pin. Had a tough break on the par 5 fourth where my ball just could not get past this little tree. I had a restricted backswing and actually hit the ball better that expected and it went over the green that led to a bogey on a fairly easy hole. Just could not get the ball in the hole although I hit a lot of good putts.

Next Round: May 31 at South Park. Taking a little non golfing vacation over the Memorial Day weekend and won’t be playing until the 31st.

Golf Diary

The Round: Played Stonecrest Score 78 Greens in Reg. 10 Putts 34

The Good: Driving was good, and I hit some of my best iron shots of the year. The weather was perfect. Played the last 13 holes 3 over par.

The Bad: For a score that was not too bad, there was a lot. Putting topped the list with 34 putts and one 3 putt green. My short game was bad as I got it up and down only 2 times out of 8 missed green. Even though my driving was good at times, I hit some really bad drives especially at the start of the round. Got off to a bad start by bogeying the 4 of the first five holes. Definitely had more yip issues today than most.

The Luck Of The Round: The luck was pretty good this day other than on the greens. I was always able to find a window to play up the fairway when I was in the wood. I hit one tree and came back in play. Never really had any bad luck.

Next Round: Tomorrow, South Park

Golf Diary

The Round: Played South Park Score 76 Greens In Reg. 8 Putts 30

The Good: Drove the ball well again and the iron play although had its ups and downs again was improving. The putting was better but not great. Another ho-hum round with 4 bogies and no birdies. I have gone through stretches like this before, where I just do not make birdies. The irons and the putting are just not sharp enough to take advantage of some holes. Missed 10 greens and was able to get it up and down 6 times.

The Bad: The rough was high compared to last week at the Park and that did make a difference. It was very penal, and you could hit no more than a 7 iron out of the rough at times. The iron game was not crisp as I did not really have many good looks at birds. The bogies were caused by bad iron shots on the front nine and on the back it was another bad iron and a bad drive that led to the other 2.

The Luck Of The Round: One spectacular putt on 9, after a fluffed chip shot, of some 50 feet that went in to save par was definitely lucky. You could say the luck was bad, that the round was horribly slow. Did not have the best lies in the rough.

Next Round: Saturday, South Park.

Golf Diary

The Round: Played Cedarbrook Red Score 85 Greens in Reg. 7 Putts 39

The Good: My driving, that was about it. The Irons were ok. The weather was beautiful so I can’t even use that as an excuse.

The Bad: Obviously putting with an atrocious 39 putts. My putting has been very good to mind blowing but not today. I really could not get the speed down and I yipped more today than in a long time. I had 4 three putt greens and only 1 one putt. I really did not play all that well, but even if I putt a little bit, I am going to break 80, which I did not come close to. I started to mess around with an idea about putting and it really mess up the entire process. Why are golfers never satisfied? My short game was bad too, particularly my pitching from about 50 to 85 yards. The chipping was not too bad but even that was erratic and painful. The last 2 days have been painful, but we are finishing up a 4 day stretch of playing with a day off on Wednesday.

The Luck Of The Round: I putted so bad that I can’t even say I had any bad luck on the greens. Luck was no factor on this pathetic round. The bar is calling, and I am taking my funnel. I am walking to the bar so there is not limit tonight.

Next Round: Tomorrow South Park.
