Pirates Morning Report: Division Series Brief

All is right in the American League as the no. 1 and no.2 seeds will meet in the Championship Series. The Cleveland Guardians grabbed the final spot with a 7-3 win over the Detroit Tigers. They will face off against the New York Yankees tomorrow in New York. The Guardians were the only team to survive what I call dead bat syndrome as they went 20 innings without scoring a run. Fortunately for them, it was in games 2 and 3, breaking the streak in the first inning of game 4 which they won 5-4. The San Diego Padres were not so fortunate as they took dead bat syndrome to new heights by not scoring a run for the final 24 innings of the division series to be eliminated by the Dodgers. The Dodgers and Mets meet today to start the National League Championship Series, in Los Angeles. The Guardians and the Mets are the flies in the ointment as we head into the Championship Series’s. The Mets because it would mean the National League would send the 6th seed to the World Series for the 3rd consecutive year. The Guardians because they would continue to frustrate the Yankees efforts to get into their first World Series since 2009. My feeling is that these flies are going to be very successful.
