Pirates Morning Report

FINAL SCORE: PIRATES 0 REDS 4

WHY THE PIRATES LOSS: THE BATS WENT SILENT AND EVEN WHEN THEY DID GET THE OCCASIONAL HIT (4) THEY WOULD RUN THEMSELVES INTO OUTS OR FALL ASLEEP AT THE BASE. DWAYNE UNDERWOOD JUNIOR STARTED RIGHT WHERE HE LEFT OFF BEFORE HE GOT INJURED BY GIVING UP RUNS IN BUNCHES. ALL IN ALL, ANOTHER PRETTY MUCH GIFT-WRAPPED WIN FOR THE REDS. LET’S HOPE THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE A TREND. BRUBAKER WAS TAKEN OUT AFTER 5 INNINGS FOR NO REASON, AFTER ONLY THROWING 77 PITCHES. TALK ABOUT OVERUSING THE BULLPEN. IT WILL CATCH UP WITH THE PIRATES, IF IT ALREADY HASN’T.

KEY MOMENT OF THE GAME: IN THE BOTTOM OF THE SECOND SUWINSKI WALKED, THEN VAN METER HIT A HARD LINER THAT WAS RIGHT AT THE CENTER FIELDER. MICHAEL PEREZ HIT A SHARP SINGLE TO RIGHT THAT WAS BOOTED BY THE RIGHT FIELDER. PEREZ TRIED TO GO TO SECOND AND WAS THROWN OUT EASILY. THERE WERE ALL KIND OF EXCUSES MADE BY THE PIRATE ANNOUNCERS FOR PEREZ’S BONEHEAD MOVE, BUT IT KIND OF SET THE TONE FOR THE REST OF GAME, WHERE THE PIRATES JUST WALKED THROUGH THE GAME.

NEXT GAME: TONIGHT, REDS IN PITTSBURGH TONIGHT THE PIRATES ARE GOING TO HAVE A TRIBUTE VIDEO TO COLIN MORAN SHOWING ALL THE BIG PLAYS HE MADE AS A PIRATE. IT LASTS 42 SECONDS. DON’T MISS IT.
