Pirates Morning Report

FINAL SCORE: PIRATES 2 REDS 8

WHY THE PIRATES LOST: THE PIRATES PLAYED DEFENSE PRETTY WELL, BUT OTHER THAN THAT THE REST OF THEIR GAME STUNK. MITCH KELLER PUT UP ANOTHER MEDIOCRE PERFORMANCE PITCHING JUST 4 AND 2/3 INNINGS AND GIVING UP 5 RUNS ON 5 HITS AND WALKING 2. KELLER FACED 21 BATTERS ONLY STRUCK OUT 2 AND ONLY THREW 12 FIRST PITCH STRIKES. AFTER ALL THE SPRING TRAINING HYPE WITH SOME WRITERS SAYING THEY EXPECTED TO SEE KELLER IN THE ALL-STAR GAME THIS YEAR, HE WINDS UP PROVING THAT SPRING TRAINING GAMES ARE MEANINGLESS. I GUESS HE COULD BE IN THE AAA ALL STAR GAME IF PIRATES SEND HIM DOWN SOON. THE BATTERS WERE JUST AS UNISPIRING, GETTING 7 HITS AND ONLY 2 RUNS AND NOT REALLY DOING ANYTHING AFTER THE 6TH INNING. HOPEFULLY THE TEAM CAN COME OUT OF THIS FUNK SOON.

KEY MOMENT OF THE GAME: THE TOP OF THE FIFTH WITH THE GAME STILL IN DOUBT, THE REDS HAD FIRST AND THIRD WITH TWO OUT AND IT LOOKED LIKE KELLER MAY BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE SITUATION WITH NO MORE RUNS SCORING. IT WAS NOT MEANT TO BE AS HE GAVE UP A DOUBLE TO BRANDON DRURY TO BREAK THE GAME OPEN 5-2 IN THE REDS FAVOR. AFTER THAT THE PIRATES SLEPT WALKED TO ANOTHER DEFEAT AT THE HANDS OF THE REDS.

NEXT GAME: TONIGHT, REDS IN PITTSBURGH. THE PIRATES HAVE LOST 4 OUT OF 5 TO THE LOWLY REDS AND IT DOES NOT LOOK MUCH BETTER FOR THE WEEKEND. YESTERDAYS LINE UP I THOUGHT WAS PRETTY GOOD. I THINK IT WILL BE TIME FOR A BIZARRE ONE, BUT ONLY THE SHELTON KNOWS FOR SURE. MAYBE WE NEED THE TURTLE TO LEAD OFF AGAIN. YES!
